2013 BWM Charity Pro-Am golf tourament: Come For The Celebrities, StayFor The Golf

May 20, 2013

So official
This weekend we were fortunate enough to get Clubhouse passes for the BWM Charity Pro-Am golf tournament (Thanks Megan!). This is a great tournament in the Upstate of South Carolina, and it is always a big draw because celebrities are always playing in it (Don’t worry – we got a ton of pictures!). The money raised goes to a lot of worthwhile charities like the Make-A-Wish foundation of SC, JDRF-Western Carolinas Chapter, Ronald McDonald House of the Carolinas, and more. Plus, it’s a Web.com PGA tournament, so its nice to see the pros work their way up.
Thornblade!

Over the course of 2 days, our group watched a lot of golf celebrities try their hand at winning the amateur portion of the tournament. We hear Oliver Hudson won the Celebrity part, so congrats to him!
There were a lot of celebrities. Who apparently also love golf!

We met a lot of celebrities. Like, a lot. We watched them golf, almost got hit by Kurt Russell’s wayward shot on the 9th hole, and said a lot of smooth things to famous people. By smooth, I mean reminded them of movies and shows they were in 10 years ago.
Nice shot Kurt. You made Par.

Like when we told Ryan Merriman (of Disney Channel’s The Thirteenth Year, The Luck of the Irish, and ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars fame) “I loved you in The Thirteenth Year”.
I should have complimented on Luck of The Irish instead

Or when we told Oliver Hudson (currently on Rules of Engagement) “I have loved you since Dawson’s Creek”.
More notably known for being the brother of Kate

Or when I called Jeffrey Donovan of Burn Notice by his characters name (Rookie movie, I know).
“Michael I think you’re great!”

Or when Wayne Gretzky was being mobbed by fans, so this was Graham’s fan photo with him.
Everyone should be so happy to even see The Great One

Mostly though, we spent our time camped out on the 9th hold at Thornblade Country Club. The tournament did this amazingly fun promotion called ‘Birdies for Beer.’ If any golfer got a birdie (one stroke under par) on this hole, they would offer Michalob Ultra beers for $1 each. This meant each group of golfers had the chance to get the folks in the stands a lot of cheap beer. It was easily the most fun hole because everyone was watching, hoping, and cheering whenever a birdie happened.

I’m sure the golfers appreciated the emotional support as well.
Get it Gretz’
Anthony Anderson, clearly focused on winning
Gary Valentine!

We also got a chance this weekend to go drink at an oft-forgotten spot: The Poinsett Westin Hotel Bar. This is a great bar to go to because it’s got that old school feel with high ceilings, lots of chandeliers, and chairs big enough to sink in.
After splitting a bottle of champagne and catching up with some great friends, we ran into another celebrity we love.
Hyde!

It was such a fun weekend, full of golf, celebrities, and sun burn.

And to conclude: This was the best picture Matt & I could get together. We’re really going to have to work on that when we move to Alaska.

Couple Photo!
