Today, June 11 2013, I turned twenty five years old. The big quarter century. The official entrance into my ‘late 20s’.
It was really a great day. I was woken up with phone calls from my parents and my friend Megan (at the bright & early time of 7am Mtn Time!)
I got a free Carmel Apple Spice and cake pops from Starbucks (as well as 2 new City Mugs! Calgary & Canada!)
& I got to cross into another country and get my new passport stamped for the first time! (When you change your name, they make you get a new passport. It was sad.)
I got to exchange some American dollars for Canadian dollars, which wasn’t as cool as I had hoped. But their money is plastic, which is pretty sweet. I was sad to learn that, despite rumours, it does in fact NOT smell like maple syrup. Eh, you win some, you lose some.
The best part of the day was spending it with Matt & Sasha Bear. I got a tiara, birthday cake, and we got party hats to wear for the day!
Matt also got me a super cute necklace from Stella & Dot, which I love. He clearly is awesome at picking out jewelry.
We’re staying the night in Calgary, Alberta, Canada tonight; so to celebrate the day we went to dinner at Wine Bar Kensington in the Kensington district of Calgary.
We split an amazing bottle of South African Chenin Blanc, along with a scrumptious cheese plate.
The atmosphere was the type of environment I love: people relaxing, drinking good wine, and sharing stories.
Today, paired with the Horseback riding from yesterday, and the sweet cards my family and friends gave me before my trip made for a really great birthday.
I am so excited to see what this year brings. I’ve got great ambitions for Anchorage, so hopefully with a bit of luck and a lot of work I can make this the best year yet!
