A Sweet, Sweet Gift (& reminder of home)

July 25, 2013

Today when I got home from running errands, I saw a large box on our porch.

IMG_2834I knew it was coming because the FedEx guy had left a note on our door yesterday, but I still didn’t know what it was or where it was from. Ironically, I wasn’t home when it arrived because I was at the FedEx store shipping my printer to my dad.

You can imagine my excitement (I really love getting packages. Sending things by post is so much better than getting an email).

So I rush into the house, throw my things down and break out the first sharp object I find: what is this magical unexpected gift!

IMG_2838Inside I find this beautiful painting of our house in Greenville – 810 Hampton Avenue. Our realtor Haro, who helped us sell our house, sent it to us as a gift. The artist is Josiah Hachett, who is an amazing urban sketch artist. I saw some of his work at the realtors office (he had commissioned sketches of historic homes in Greenville) and fell in love with Josiah’s quick lines and architectural approach.

Excitedly, I had to decide where to hang it because it needed to go RIGHT NOW. I decided to hang it under one of my favourite quotes by Cesare Pavese that I had framed, and I think it looks pretty great there.

IMG_2841This painting is the perfect reminder of our first home that we owned together. I really loved our house in Greenville – it’s location, the craftsman style, and high ceilings and hardwood floors, and the history about it. Now every time I see my new art, I will get to be reminded of the great moments we had there.

It also sealed Haro’s title as the best realtor of all time. Besides making selling our house the easiest process ever, he used his ways with social media and personal networking to create a buzz about our home before it was even listed – meaning we had multiple offers coming in within days of the house going on the market.

We just moved (closed on Tuesday) into the Overbrook Historic District here in Greenville and love our old house like you loved yours… I blog, too, and just wanted to come say hello to you!
I am curious about Alaska, so I will follow along with you as you do life there 🙂

Thanks Leslie! Isn’t Haro the greatest? He does a great job of making you feel like you’re his #1 client!

I stopped by your blog and it’s beautiful! I’ll be swinging by frequently now to get inspiration on how to make our Alaskan home more organized and reminded of home in the South!

Glad to hear you had a quick sale. I am the photographer that had the pleasure of shooting your home. It’s a beautiful home and very easy to shoot. I remember your husband was hoping it would sell fast so you could transfer to Alaska. I also shot the home Leslie sold and the home she purchased. Small world.
That was a great gift Haro sent you, he is one of the most thoughtful Realtors I know.
Wish you and your husband all the best in Alaska.
