Obsessed!: BarkBox… & a Chance To Win Your Own!

September 30, 2013

It finally came!

I’d been seeing BarkBox all over the internet… a mail order gift service for your dogs. Finally, I decided to give it a try.

I signed up Sasha & Moose for their very own BarkBox for the month of September. I wanted it to be a surprise for them (and since they don’t understand Human English, it was successful), but I couldn’t help but be excited!

Especially when I got this e-mail:

I came home from my Philadelphia/Greenville trip to the BarkBox waiting on the counter. They have 3 size options to get: small dog, medium dog, large dog. Since Sasha is ~80 lbs, and Moose is ~45 lbs, we went with the large dog option. One thing that is great about BarkBox is they actually cater what is in the box for the size of the dog (meaning treats come in proper serving sizes for the pups!)

Excitedly, I opened the box and took a peek inside:

IMG_3507There were treats, toys, and animal band-aid for any boo-boo’s at the dog park (or in Sasha and Moose’s case, too rough playtime).

Included with the treats was a card describing what was in the box, and where to go if we wanted more.

IMG_3542I let the dogs into the house and took the BarkBox downstairs. Knowing their excitement, I let them open the box themselves. Moose nosed her way into where the treats were, while Sasha chewed on the cardboard box. I’m guessing they did such a great job sealing the treats you can’t smell them until they’re out of the packaging. This is good news for us, because, you know… bears and moose hang out in town.

Eventually, she figured it out.

Of course I had to let them sample every treat. BarkBox includes things that are really good for your dogs: all edible treats are  wheat, gluten, soy, corn, filler-free whenever possible and organic whenever possible. This means only the best is going in our dogs tummies. One may be concerned that “oh if it’s healthy, does it taste good?” (because I think that about human food all the time).

As you can see from the lip licking, the treats were good. The above are pizza flavored (!!!!) treats that they went crazy for! Another treat in their box were these natural jerky treats.

They loved these. From the picture below, you can see Moose diving for Sasha’s, and Sasha with her tongue out thinking she was about to get the treat. When I offered these up, both went through their “Sit Shake Lay” routine so quickly, I didn’t even have to do the hand signals for them.

Clearly, delicious

Another thing included in the box was a toy. The toy was a turtle that says it was for ‘tough tuggers’.

Now, I don’t usually trust toys that say they hold up, because Moose finds a way to rip apart everything we’ve given her within 24 hours. It’s the reason why Sasha no longer has her Red Dog toy, Squirrel toy, Duck toy, and Hedgehog toy. (May they all rest in peace)

Sasha has learned to keep things she likes close

They’ve had this toy for 2 weeks now, and I can see some wear on it, but so far it has not been destroyed. You can even still tell that it’s a turtle. I’m not too concerned though, because I know that in their next BarkBox, they’ll have another toy. As long as they can last at least a month, that’s all I need.

So yes, I’m obsessed with the BarkBox. And since so many of my friends have pets they love as much as I love mine, I wanted to share my experience with it. Since they’re kind of pricey if you don’t do a plan, I wanted to do a free giveaway to a lucky reader to receive their very own BarkBox!

I’ve set up the giveaway through Rafflecopter, so just click to enter! It starts Monday 29 September and goes through Friday 11 October. I’ll be doing a random drawing 12 October, and will be contacting the winner with their prize. The prize will be given in the form of a gift link, where you get to go in and fill out your own information on where to ship it to (so you don’t have to worry about me knowing where you live, unless you want to receive super adorable postcards from Alaska).

I’m offering several ways to enter to win:

  1. Tweet the link the link to this post, tagging me (@emilyrstewart). You can do this every day of the contest.
  2. Leave a comment saying why you love your dog, and why they’d love a BarkBox.
  3. Subscribe to updates. You can sign up on the homepage.

So easy!

If you think your dog will love BarkBox as much as mine do, and you want to go ahead and get one, I can offer $5 off your first subscription (they do 1 month, 3 month, and 6 month plans) if you purchase via this link.

So what are you waiting for! Let me know how awesome your dog is, and why he deserves a BarkBox!

What can I say about Fancy Jane, the world’s most adorable Pit Bull? She shares our affection with three cats and never complains. Fancy knows she’s not allowed in the house when I say, Not Invited.” How smart is that?

Oh and one other thing…someone needs to tell Fancy she’s a Pit Bull. She thinks she’s a lap dog and that she weighs 5 lbs as opposed to 62!

Kokoa is our 7 year old lab mix who is the sweetest dog. He loves to play and he loves treats! He too thinks he’s a lap dog instead of a lab dog! I asked him if he’d like to win a bark box and I know he answered “YES!”

I entered for the BarkBox – Sampson loves his treats!! But Bear (Ben’s dad’s dog) sometimes steals them…. Hopefully if we win, Bear will share 🙂

Lilly would love a Barkbox because she’s a spoiled rotten puppy!

I love Lilly because she’s seriously the best dog ever. Like for real, the best. She’s awesome and adorable and has a great personality.

Also she loves Sasha (and probably moose if they ever meet)!

Hi! It’s my sweet rescue girl’s birthday this month, and she would LOVE a barkbox! Callie, my goofy girl, is a boxer-pit mix- she’ll be turning 1 on the 18th! Other than being a little clumsy, she’s very smart, and a sweet cuddler. She also recently overcame her fear of the swimming pool, and is a pro swimmer now! Seriously, we can’t keep her out. If she wins the bark box, we promise she’ll share with her big brother Mike- he’s recovering like a champ from a rattlesnake bite, and he would love a few extra treats here and there!

This is for my cousin Butters! He would love it so that we both can have BarkBoxes to play with!

Duke is our sweet rescue dog, we’ve had him for about three months and he’s brought us so much joy already! I’ve been wanting to get him a BarkBox subscription, but I’m in grad school & money is tight, so a free box would give Duke lots of yummy treats while not breaking the bank! –Jess @ Life with Duke
