So we’re only on Day 2 of February and it’s already shaping up to be an exciting month!
I finally followed through with one of my New Year’s Resolutions regarding Facebook. I find myself opening the app on my iPhone anytime I’m bored, and I hate myself for it. So, for the month of February, I have deactivated my Facebook account and deleted the app from my phone. This will hopefully lower my dependency on a website I don’t even really like.
For those of you who normally keep up with me via Facebook, no worries! I haven’t given up ALL social media. I am a HUGE fan of Twitter and Instagram. You can follow me on both sites for more pictures and thought provoking things then I ever posted on Facebook anyways. Twitter: @emilysinalaska. Instagram: @emilysinalaska
Look forward to amazing things, like
When people don’t take their ice cleats off inside, I just close my eyes and pretend they’re tap dancers. Really terrible tap dancers.

Really cool and insightful stuff, guys.
Also happening in February, apparently there is some big football game being played today (Feb 2nd). Since I’m not a big football fan, I’d rather watch the Puppy Bowl, but as we don’t have cable we’re stuck hanging out with friends watching the real Super Bowl. But, I did make a really amazing dip to bring!
These 4 basic ingredients. We browned the sausage, and put the Velveeta, Rotel, and Rosarita beans in my crockpot on high to start melting the cheese. Once it was half melted, we stirred in the cooked and drained sausage, put the crockpot on high for 30 minutes to allow everything to melt, and then stirred and lowered the crockpot to low until it’s time for the game.
It’s super easy, minimal prep time, and really really delicious. Props to the Costco taster lady who gave me the recipe. Maybe this will be my introduction to bring told to bring food to Family Style dinners (versus usually being asked to pick up some beer, or cups). Dream big, I always say.
Also on my ‘I find this hilarious!’ meter for the day is all the tweets about the Superb Owl. I’m a big owl fan, and a huge fan of puns, so the tweets regarding this have been hilarious. So of my favorites:
If you’re a fan of my Superb Owl coverage, tweet about it with the official hashtag, #SUPERBOWL.

My personal vote is the Barn Owl for most Superb Owl. They are so cute!
Also in February I was lucky enough to celebrate Vietnamese New Year last night! One of our friends here in Alaska is Vietnamese, so she hosted a big dinner and had us do some traditions to bring us luck in the new lunar new year. My fave was the money origami. I made a t-shirt, but there was some super cool ones shown off!
I even got to play with some Australian money, as the girl whose home hosted is from Australia! Anchorage such a melting pot of people. I love it!
Finally, apparently Punxsutawney Phil said there is going to be six more weeks of winter. Honestly, I’m pumped. We haven’t been experiencing winter in Anchorage these past few weeks (with most of the snow melted, several days of temps above 40, and some plants starting to bloom), so I’m excited to actually get some snow so I can use my ski pants and snowshoes this year. Long Live Winter!
How’s your February shaping up? Who do you cheer for in the Superb Owl contest today? Are you going to try out my dip recipe?
