Get Outside

The Appalachian Trail – Tellico Gap & Wesser Bald Lookout Tower

December 14, 2015

The weather has been surprisingly nice for December due to El Nino, so we’ve been trying to take advantage and spend as many nice days on the trails as possible. We recently spent a day exploring the Tellico Gap portion of the Appalachian Trail. The drive to where we started was beautiful, featuring 8 miles of gravel road with switchbacks giving us glimpses of the landscape.

One of my big goals is to thru-hike the AT one day, preferably while Moose is still young and spry enough to make the hike with us. The hardest part about being an adult, I’ve found, is now I have the money to do the things I want to do but I don’t have the time, while in college I had the time during summer breaks but not the funds to do them.

This fire tower used to have an enclosed building on top, but it was unfortunately destroyed in a fire. Ironic, right?

The girls struggled to climb the stairs to the top of the fire tower.
