Happy Post-Thanksgiving! Our Thursday was spent visiting our families, eating two big meals, and being thankful for great family members who recognize that our dogs are our children and go where we go. My grandmother even allowed the dogs in her house, much to the amazement of my parents, aunts, and uncles. My grandmother was even sneakily sneaking them food – just proving that the great-granddogs are the obviously the favourites in the family.
After Thanksgiving, we headed down to our usual out-of-the-city getaway of Rabun County, Georgia. Black Friday in a small town is always different than in a city – the two big stores in Clayton are the Walmart and the Home Depot, so I think most people head towards Atlanta if they need to do major shopping. Personally, there is nothing I need or want so badly that I am willing to wake up early or sacrifice my Thursday evening waiting in lines with other blood-thirsty shoppers. But I get that it’s a thing people do.
Instead, I checked my e-mail for deals from some small online retailers I like, and checked to see if anything on any of my wishlists were on sale. I was able to nab some items off our baby registry from small online businesses that will add some unique touches to the baby’s room.
After sleeping in until the glorious time of 8:30am (Thanks Sasha!), we headed into Clayton to grab some coffee and watch downtown transform for Christmas.
We also did shopping, popping in at the Wander North Georgia brick-and-morter store that opened last weekend. Wander North Georgia is a social site that highlights great hiking and lifestyle activities in the North Georgia mountains. The creators live in Lakemont, very close to our home in Tiger, and we love their enthusiasm for sharing the great parts of this region. Their new store looks amazing, and my favourite part is the hiking advice bar – you can talk to them about how far you want to go, level of difficulty with hiking, and distance desired and they’ll help you figure out a great adventure. They’ll even print out information on the hike for you so you don’t have to worry about pulling it up on your phone.
Below are some shots I took of the Wander North Georgia shop – I couldn’t handle how amazing it looked! (Click a photo to enlarge)
Their store is very welcoming, so if you’re in the Rabun Area I recommend stopping by to say hi and check out all of the other great stores in downtown Clayton. It is truly adorable, with some amazing antiques and specially curated items in many of the stores. We always find unique things for decorating our home, and have great conversations with those who live local, and just love the quieter pace of the area.
