hello! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty great.
I got a new bike. It’s a Raleigh mountain/hybrid bike, so I can take on the mean streets of Anchorage, maybe bust my butt on the trails with Matt, and train for a triathlon.
On Friday, Stephanie & I ran the Twilight 12k, with 3000 other people from Anchorage. It was really fun, and the longest distance we’ve ever run. Yay for fitness! I even ran into a running blogger based out of Anchorage that I follow at the event, The Runner’s Plate.
Saturday was spent finishing up the guest bedroom, just in time for our first visitor of the summer, Megan, to arrive June 6th! We put new paint on the walls, had to paint the ceiling (because the previous home owners felt yellow was a great colour for everything), and assembled a bed frame so our guests weren’t sleeping on the floor. I got a wicker basket to fill with clean towels, tourism information about Anchorage, and snacks for East Coasters to munch on while waiting for Matt & I to wake up. (The four hour time difference tends to make guests wake early. My dad killed our internet data over Thanksgiving while waiting for us to wake up.)
Saturday afternoon we headed up to the Glen Alps Trailhead to see the snow that had fallen over night for Anchorage in the elevation above 1500′. It was really cool seeing snow at the end of May, and even cooler to see the line where the snow came down as rain. Downtown and Midtown looked as green as ever!
Flat Top Mountain was covered with snow, and looked so beautiful. So of course we had to take a picture! Also, Matt’s mountain man beard is reaching new levels. If he doesn’t trim it soon, he’s going to start looking like one of those Duck Dynasty guys.
Sunday we went to REI to pick up the bike we ordered for Matt during their Anniversary Sale. I noticed on our order form that they had ordered Matt the wrong size bike, and when we went in to get it fixed they happen to have the one he wanted in his size in stock. A quick ‘exchange’ and Matt was rolling out the door!
We rode our bikes to lunch, going 2 miles each way to feast at Wendy’s. (We were indecisive about food and decided this at the last minute. Poor choice, I know.) My new bike felt great to ride, I literally felt like I was flying with very little effort. Guess that’s what happens when you actually invest in something nice instead of a Walmart bike.
…and changing out the curtains in our master bedroom. (The old ones went to the guest room.) Matt thought our old ones were too dark, and helped pick out these new ones. I think he has excellent decor choices!
We finished up a very rainy Sunday hanging with our pups and getting ready for a long workweek. I’m hoping the week flies by since our first guest of the summer arrives Thursday night!!! I am beyond excited to have a little bit of the Carolina’s come to see our new state. It should be a blast!
How was your weekend? How did you celebrate the kick-off to June, the greatest month of the year? (It’s my birth month. I’m allowed to say that.)
