Exploring Austin, Texas

December 8, 2015

Earlier this year I went to Austin, Texas to visit one of my best friends. She moved to Austin early last year, so I wanted her to show me some of her favourite things around town.

We had an amazing (but short!) weekend together, but we filled it with laughs, great memories, and lots of beer. Below are some of my favourite shots from my visit:

Located at 1720 S. First Street, on the southern exterior wall of Roadhouse Relics, this mural first adorned the neighborhood business in 1998. It was just restored finishing up late November 2015.

The ABGB had an amazing patio and a yummy selection of small plates. I loved the meatballs!

Perfect way to spend a hot summer day? Tubing down the Guadalupe.

For great sour beers and an all-day party vibe, Jester King was an awesome spot to spend an afternoon. You could buy beer from several locations on the property, a variety of food choices, and a brewery tour!

Gospel Brunch at Stubb’s BBQ offered an amazing buffet of food with super soulful music. Hands down, the best way to spend a Sunday morning.

For a chance to try craft beer from all over Texas, we went to Craft Pride. Our bartender helped us create our own custom tasting flights catered to what we like.

There is an astounding amount of things to do in the outdoors in the city, which I’m really jealous of. Right in the middle of Austin is Lady Bird Lake, and a lot of our more active activities surrounded this lake. We got to walk Megan’s dog Lilly around the lake, see the bats fly out from under Congress Avenue Bridge, and go Stand Up Paddleboarding on the lake. We saw so many people riding bikes and playing frisbee. Dogs have an awesome spot right on the water so they can fetch on land or in the water, and keep cool on the hot days.
